Lexus Nx Leads the Medium Luxury Suv Segment

Lexus Nx Leads the Medium Luxury Suv Segment

The steady increase in the demand for SUV vehicles has seen the Lexus NX lead the Medium Luxury SUV segment with over 20% share based on 2015 YTD sales (to the end of June).

As at the end of June, Lexus New Zealand is tracking 16% ahead of 2014 with the NX accounting for 41% of Lexus sales YTD.

A combined 7 model line-up featuring the proven hybrid technology of the NX300h and the performance of the all-new turbo petrol engine in the NX200t, has ensured this medium luxury SUV caters to every lifestyle, attracts a greater audience and as result, has achieved segment leadership.

Launched in October 2014, the NX300h with hybrid powertrain, has been exceptionally well received by New Zealand customers making up 47% of total NX sales YTD. While the turbo petrol variant, the NX200t, leads with 53% of NX sales after joining the line-up in February 2015.

Just one unit separates the two top selling NX variants, the most popular NX300h Limited and the NX200t Limited.

The distinctive four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine debuted in the Lexus line-up with the launch of NX200t, and is due to appear in the IS200t and RC200t later this year, adding a new dynamic to the brand’s range and reinforcing the Lexus’ performance credentials.

Lexus General Manager of Product, Spencer Morris, says the impact of the NX is far broader than sales volume alone.

“The NX offers a combination of dramatic styling, power train choice, and comprehensive specification levels that are unparalleled in the luxury SUV segment.

“The success of the NX is a great customer endorsement of this bold direction for Lexus and will be reinforced by new models released later in the year.”

SUV’s account for over 40% of Luxury car sales in New Zealand YTD.
