East Coast Region’s finest homes announced

A new build in Hastings District and a renovation in Gisborne have been revealed as this year’s top East Coast homes, winning Supreme Awards in the East Coast Registered Master Builders 2015 House of the Year.

Ainsworth & Collinson took out six regional awards with the Hastings District home, including a Gold Award and category win for the Carters New Home $1 million - $2 million, as well as the East Coast Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the 2015 House of the Year.

The company also took home the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award, Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award and Outdoor Living Award for the same home.

Bain Construction was awarded the Supreme Award for East Coast Registered Master Builders 2015 Renovation of the Year, as well as the Craftsmanship Award and a Gold Award and overall category win for the SafetyMate Renovation Award over $500,000.

Ainsworth & Collinson’s winning home impressed the judges, who said there were various challenges and detailing involved with this build in order to suit the client’s requirements.

“This was a complex and well-crafted home, with outstanding timber panelling and impressive sustainable aspects. It has solar water, three wood burners and substantial use of natural materials,” they said.

“This build was a great collaboration between the client, architect and the builder and the end result was an outstanding home.”

Judges called Bain Constructions’ renovation “absolutely immaculate” and perfectly aligned.

“This home was built like a jewellery box. The joints were outstanding and the junctions were pencil thin. It was a fantastic renovation,” they said.

“The use of native timber was exceptional, and exhibited in this home is some of the best timber craftsmanship we’ve seen in quite some time.”

The results were revealed at a gala dinner on Saturday 25 July at Old Church Restaurant & Bar in Napier. The winning builders were recognised by members of the East Coast Registered Master Builders and members of the local building industry.

There were five Gold Award winners from the East Coast region which will now be eligible, alongside Gold Award winners from up and down the country, to become National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be announced in September.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for Renovation of the Year and House of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.
