New Acting Chief Executive for Standards New Zealand
Standards New Zealand will have a new Acting Chief Executive from 1 October 2015, Standards Council Chair, John Lumsden,
announced today.
The current Acting Chief Executive Michelle Wessing will leave the organisation, to pursue new opportunities. Michelle
has been in this role for nearly two years and she has decided the time has come for her to move onto other things. The
Standards Council express their sincere thanks to Michelle for the manner in which she has prepared the organisation for
the transition.
‘Standards New Zealand General Manager Standards Solutions, Stuart Ng, will take over the role as Acting Chief Executive
on 1 October 2015 and will fulfil the role until the functions of standards development and access are placed fully
within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. We currently estimate this to be by late 2015/early 2016.
‘Stuart Ng is well placed to take over the reins as he has been with Standards New Zealand for over 9 years working in
the standards development area, and has been a member of the senior management team for 2 years. He has a thorough
understanding of the organisation and the sectors with which it works. Council members and I have the utmost confidence
in the ability of Stuart and the leadership team to manage the remaining stages of the transition to the Ministry in a
smooth and capable manner while ensuring business as usual at Standards New Zealand continues.’
John Lumsden said the Standards Council was very sorry to see Michelle go but respected her personal decision to leave.
‘We have worked closely with Michelle for some years, and especially closely over the last 2 years. Her leadership of
Standards New Zealand during a time of having to maintain and build on usual activities, while also preparing for the
transition to new arrangements, has been exceptional. She leaves Standards New Zealand in very good health and achieving
high results. We wish her the very best for the future in whatever she decides to do.’
