AA Traveller expansion plans for
domestic tourism
AA Traveller, through AA
Tourism Publishing, is taking a further step towards
expanding its suite of maps and guide books with the
acquisition of three regular ‘What’s On’ publications
from Jason’s Travel Media Ltd, owned by Bennetts
Group.
From September the quarterly What’s On guide in Rotorua, the monthly Auckland and regular Queenstown (10 a year) guides will carry the AA Traveller brand and be operated by AA Tourism Publishing.
AA Tourism Publishing produces more than three million maps and guides annually. General Manager Moira Penman says the What’s On guides are a good fit for the business.
“Over the years we’ve built strong relationships with accommodation providers through the length and breadth of New Zealand. The addition of the What’s On guides to our suite of publications means we can expand our services to increasing numbers of attraction operators and event organisers which dovetails nicely with the rest of our business,” Ms Penman says.
“These new additions will enable us to create new ways to present New Zealand to inbound visitors and domestic tourists both in print and also online at aatraveller.co.nz.
“It also means we’ll be able to expand the availability of information available to Members and the public in all the usual outlets including AA Centres throughout the country.”
As part of AA Tourism Publishing’s growth, it has focused on creating a new offering for visitors and domestic travellers with the New Zealand Cycle Trail Guide, with a second edition packed with more information due out later this year.
Further expansion is planned later this year with the release of a specific guide for Chinese visitors to New Zealand.
“There’s a huge appetite among travellers for quality information about places, events, attractions and listings of what to do and where to stay. While we’re continuing to develop our online services, the value of a printed book available in outlets all over New Zealand that can be picked up easily and perused at leisure remains high with nearly 10,000 copies of AA Traveller publications taken off shelves every day.”
