JETSTAR/QANTAS expansion provides more choice
JETSTAR/QANTAS expansion provides more choice for New Zealanders
The NZ Airports Association welcomes todays’ announcement by Qantas and Jetstar with the Prime Minister the Hon John Key.
The Association is very pleased that Jetstar is expanding its services in New Zealand and adding regional cities to its current schedule,” said Kevin Ward, chief executive of the NZ Airports Association.
“The addition of at least four new destinations, yet to be announced, into its current network is great news for travellers and will boost the economies of those regions.
Jetstar is considering Hamilton, Rotorua, Napier, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Nelson and Invercargill.
“The additional capacity and schedules will help grow and strengthen travel, tourism and trade across the country, and provide Jetstar and Qantas international routes with strong domestic feeder services.
“This decision is a true reflection of the confidence Qantas and Jetstar have in the growing NZ market.
“All NZ’s larger airports have seen increases in their passenger numbers and the number of visitors coming to our shores has increased steadily. The number of domestic passenger movements grew by almost 7 percent to over 22 million in the last two years.
“Air New Zealand has also been in a growth phase at home and internationally, and smaller airlines have stepped into the regional routes vacated by Air New Zealand, said Mr Ward.
“Airports will play a key role in supporting Jetstar in these expansion plans. Our members are constantly seeking ways to support airlines in terms of service and improving the travellers’ experience” Mr Ward said.
