Central New Zealanders’ connectivity is about to take off with Jetstar
Central New Zealand is about to receive a transformative step in their connectivity with today’s announcement that Jetstar will be commencing regional operations in December 2015.
“Jetstar is a game changer. The new regional services will bring central New Zealand closer to the rest of the country and the World and with low cost fares,” said Steve Sanderson, Wellington Airport Chief Executive.
“The Capital has seen Jetstar grow to 1.25 million seats a year. They have already cut the cost of travel between New Zealand's main centres and proven themselves as sustainable competitors. The addition of regional services show the demand and confidence in the market and the potential for growth is there.”
“Jetstar will provide new avenues for tourism around central New Zealand and greatly contribute towards the Tourism 2025 goal of regional dispersal; ensuring tourists have the diverse range of options they are looking for around the country. This is great news for kiwis and international visitors alike and will grow travel markets.
“Jetstar was recently the first new international airline to begin regular services to Wellington in more than 10 years (Gold Coast and Melbourne) and it is great to see their continued commitment to the region.
“Competition is great for consumers and will provide choice and flexibility that has not always been available. But in order for the benefits to remain it is important that central New Zealanders share their travel dollar to keep the competition.
“We will value our working relationship and will continue to support Jetstar and its plans for growth in New Zealand.”
