Chamber acknowledges Fran Wilde’s contribution

Outgoing Wellington Regional Council Chair Fran Wilde is to be congratulated on a job well done for the region, says Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive John Milford.

“Fran Wilde was chair for eight years, during which time the region made great strides across a range of issues.

“She was one of the driving forces behind Transmission Gully, a number of regional infrastructure improvements including the enhancement of Wellington’s resilience, as well as public transport developments, which included negotiating with Government for the purchase of new trains for the Trans Metro service.

“She was also a great supporter of changing the governance of the region, something the vast majority of businesses in the region are calling for.

“We just hope that politicking doesn’t continue to get in the way of achieving the right outcomes for the region.

“Our economy and regional development continues to lag behind others, and councillors need to keep their eye on issues that will help move us forward.”
