Improved travel options enhances trade opportunity

Improved travel options enhances trade opportunity

The India New Zealand Business Council (INZBC) applauds the announcement today by Air New Zealand (NZ) and Air India (AI) of an agreement to code share on either airlines flights.

"The enhanced agreement between both airlines provides better people to people connectivity, which is vital in allowing greater market access and is good news for exporters and importers" says INZBC Chair Robert Barker. "Here at the INZBC we are very keen to support commercial enterprises, such as airlines, that assist in improving people to people contact and enhance the opportunity in trade of goods and services. Improved accessibility through opening travel options provided by airlines is another good step forward in allowing choice for people to travel between both nations".

Air India’s manager for Australia, Madhu Mathen is very enthused by this new progress. He quoted to INZBC saying, "The Air India -Air New Zealand code share agreement heralds a new era and is a boon to passengers traveling between New Zealand and India. The schedules and marketing strengths of the two carriers complement each other perfectly, resulting in the most convenient and comfortable travel option between the two countries for the discerning customer.”

The INZBC's recently held Summit had a strong focus on trade and supporting the efforts of Government and private enterprise in both countries to engage in dialogue that provided opportunities for industry and business in both countries through a comprehensive FTA being agreed. "Members of INZBC are extremely supportive of continuing our dialogue with counterparts in India and with Government to encourage on-going discussions in support of an FTA being agreed. New Zealand and India share many number of common attributes and the announcement today by both airlines further enhances our ability to connect more often" noted Mr Barker.

The new codeshare agreement between Air New Zealand and Air India is most welcome and adds to the already announced enhanced partnership Air New Zealand now has with Singapore Airlines. The INZBC looks forward to feather details of the new codeshare agreement being announced and implementation as soon as possible.

The INZBC represents over 200 businesses participating in two-way trade in both nations that will see improved travel options with this agreement being put in place.
