$1m shared between local groups — and more to come!
Local voting for Z’s Good in the Hood programme is over and the results of how $1m will be divided between community groups across New Zealand will soon be announced.
More than 500 community groups doing good in neighbourhoods across the country were selected from thousands of applications, and Z customers were asked to vote for their favourite group throughout May.
Customers making purchases (excluding tobacco only purchases) at Z stations during May were given an orange token and invited to vote for the group they wished to support.
Each Z station supported four local groups who will receive a share of $4,000 based on how customers voted. The votes are now being tallied and the cheques will be presented to each of the groups this month.
And Good in the Hood doesn’t stop there. This year Z is giving away an extra $250,000 ‘Supercharger’ funding, to be shared by up to 22 groups from across NZ.
One community group from each of Z’s 22 regions will be nominated by local staff to share in the $250,000. From 9 to 19 July, New Zealanders will be asked to tell Z what they reckon at Z.co.nz, before the final decision on how to share the $250,000 is made on 20 July by a panel led by Z Chief Executive Mike Bennetts.
A further $1,000 per station has also been set aside for Z’s local Retailers to support other neighbourhood groups and projects as they arise through the remainder of the year.
Z’s Community Manager, Christine Langdon, says Good in the Hood is all about keeping it local.
“We reckon the best way to give back to our communities is to put our local teams and customers at the heart of deciding how funding is shared. They know better than anyone what matters in their neighbourhoods.
“Through Good in the Hood we get to celebrate the contribution that hundreds of groups across New Zealand are making in their communities. We love seeing the groups we’re supporting getting out promoting themselves on our forecourts, and our customers and local teams getting right in behind them too.
“We’re really excited about the extra good that up to 22 of these groups are going to be able to do with their share of the Supercharger funding this year too.”
You will be able to see how much funding each of the groups in your neighbourhood received by visiting your local Z station during June. To find out more about Good in the Hood or Supercharger, visit www.z.co.nz/goodinthehood.
