Search Begins for Brother’s Next Design Star

Search Begins for Brother’s Next Design Star

Shining a spotlight on New Zealand’s young creative talent, popular competition Brother Design Stars is back and on the hunt for the next big fashion and craft superstars.

Now in its second year, Brother Design Stars encourages youth in school years 7 to 13 to enter one of two award categories for a chance to share over $30,000 in prizes.

Brother Sewing machines, ScanNCuts, gift cards and money-can’t-buy experiences are part of the prize pool.

With the theme of ‘Identity’, entrants are encouraged to create something that best shows how they are unique and special. The theme runs across both award categories, the Brother Design Stars Craft Award and the Brother Design Stars Fashion Award.

Brother New Zealand is excited to launch the second year of Brother Design Stars and encourage more young Kiwis to design, create and have fun in the process.

Brother Marketing Manager, Emma Crossett, says “we were overwhelmed by the quality of entries in the launch year and the amazing young talent all over New Zealand.”

“Brother paves the way in product innovation and technology, and we’re proud to support and foster the next generation of creative Kiwis passionate about craft, sewing and design,” she adds.

Primary and secondary school students can enter either fashion or craft, or both, award categories. Each will be judged across two age groups; school years 7 to 9 and 10 to 13.

The Brother Design Stars Craft Award asks entrants to create a unique and functional tablet cover from a simple, downloadable Brother template. This category will appeal to those with a passion for DIY, decorating and craft and who love technology and gadgets.

The Brother Design Stars Fashion Award will appeal to those who are fashion savvy, follow trends and love to express their individual fashion style. Entrants must create a ready-to-wear fashion item or outfit that showcases their identity and what makes them unique.

This year, a Supreme Winner across the two categories will be crowned, winning their school a complete Brother classroom kit out valued at $8,000 along with return flights to Auckland, a professional photo-shoot and more.

Category finalists will also have another opportunity to win through The 4:30 Show People’s Choice Awards, voted entirely by the public. The awards will feature on-air, with voting through the show’s website www.the430show.co.nz.

Registrations for Brother Design Stars open Monday 29 June, and close Friday 21 August, 2015. Entrants must register online atwww.brotherdesignstars.co.nz. All physical entries must be received for judging by 5pm Friday 4 September, 2015. Winners will be announced in late September.
