Media Release
18 May, 2015

Vodafone achieves New Zealand’s first MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification success

Vodafone New Zealand’s wholesale division today announced the achievement of Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) CE 2.0 E-Access certification. Vodafone is the first and currently only MEF Carrier Ethernet (CE) 2.0 certified service provider in New Zealand.

MEF CE 2.0 certification demonstrates Vodafone’s commitment to deliver solutions that meet the industry’s highest technical standards.

Vodafone Wholesale Director, Steve Rieger, says Vodafone is committed to investing in our network to deliver the highest quality products for our wholesale customers.

“CE 2.0 certification validates the quality of our products and sets us apart from the competition.

“This certification enables us to move beyond simple connectivity. Advanced Ethernet technology gives us the ability to make significant improvements, so we can provide the best service to our wholesale customers. We now have the ability to measure and provide comprehensive online reporting of service performance and proactively monitor and identify faults – real-time.”

Steve adds: “Many of our wholesale services are used as a component in national and international telecommunications services. CE 2.0 certification gives our customer’s peace of mind that integration with our network can be quickly and easily achieved.”

E-Access services are available nationwide via Vodafone’s extensive optical and MPLS based packet network in conjunction with Ciena’s 3900 E-Suite packet networking solutions.

Anthony McLachlan, Ciena Vice President & General Manager of APAC Regional Sales at Ciena, explains, “We’ve reached a pinnacle moment in time where the traditional, run-of-the-mill network is no longer suitable to handle the needs of today’s digital, web-scale world.

“Vodafone understood this and took the necessary steps to evolve their network to better meet its customers’ changing demands. Ciena’s packet networking solutions provide a sophisticated Ethernet service that enables superior scalability and faster service delivery.”

Nan Chen, President of the MEF said the MEF Certification Program had been instrumental in accelerating worldwide adoption of Carrier Ethernet solutions by tens of thousands of businesses and organisations.

“CE 2.0 certification is a highly challenging and significant accreditation to achieve and represents the gold standard of deployment for the marketplace. We congratulate Vodafone New Zealand on this impressive result”.
