Award-Winning New Zealand Film to Screen on Emirates Flights

Award-winning film What We Do in the Shadows will screen on Emirates airline’s inflight entertainment system, ice,from next month.

Written, directed and starring Flight of the Conchords’ Jemaine Clement and Boy director and star Taika Waititi, the film has received critical acclaim around the world.

Released in New Zealand cinemas in 2014, this vampire mockumentary tells the story of four vampires flatting together in central Wellington. It explores the themes of friendship and camaraderie, resulting in a hilarious take on modern day vampire life.

Based on Clement and Waititi’s 2006 short film of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows has won more than 10 international film awards, including the Midnight Madness People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival 2014 and Audience Award at the Warsaw Film Festival 2014.

Even more New Zealand cinema is available on the Emirates ice ‘Middle Earth’ channel where all six Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films are available for viewing.

Emirates ice has been voted the Best Inflight Entertainment for 10 years running in the prestigious Skytrax World Airline Awards.

Travellers on board Emirates can sample a smorgasbord of the latest entertainment content in more than 35 languages on ice. With the refresh of content across channels every month, the language mix offered on icechanges but the diversity and depth of language content remains consistent.

“Last year, Emirates flew over 45 million people to 145 destinations and the diverse entertainment selection we offer mirrors the personality of our global customers. We try to have our finger on the pulse of what entertainment our customers enjoy, and language plays a crucial role in catering to these different tastes,” said Patrick Brannelly, Divisional Vice President – Customer Experience, Emirates.

Customers can enjoy a staggering choice of over 2,000 channels of entertainment, with almost 500 movies from around the world, hundreds of hours of TV including box-sets of popular shows like Mad Men, Luther and Anger Management and thousands of hours of music from contemporary to classical.

Emirates’ new Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft offer the ice system on larger personal TV screens with HD resolution: 27-inch in First Class, 20-inch in Business Class and 12.1 inch in Economy Class.
