Growth in Online Vacancies

Growth in Online Vacancies

The number of skilled vacancies advertised online in New Zealand rose 0.2 per cent for the month of March, and were up 5.8 per cent in the past year to March 2015, according to the latest Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Jobs Online report.

The March increase in skilled vacancies was driven by the accounting, human resources, legal and administration industries (up 1.2 per cent), followed by the hospitality and tourism, and education and training industries (both up 0.9 per cent). The occupation group with the biggest month-on-month increase was managers (up 0.8 per cent).

Jobs Online now includes data on teacher and school principal vacancies from the Education Gazette, as well as those advertised on Seek and Trade Me Jobs.

“The Education Gazette data means the education and training sector is now covered more comprehensively,” says Julian Williams, MBIE’s Acting Manager Labour Market and Business Performance.

Skilled job vacancies increased in most regions. The Manawatu-Wanganui/Taranaki region had the highest increase over the past month (up 1.9 per cent). This was followed by Gisborne/Hawke’s Bay (up 1.1 per cent) and Auckland (up 0.9 per cent) regions.
