Fidelity Life Named Top Corporate Fundraiser for Shave Week
Staff with shaven heads at Fidelity Life’s head office may be feeling the cooler weather, but are warm in the knowledge that they’ve raised an unbeatable amount of money participating in Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s annual fundraiser Shave for a Cure.
After a closely fought battle for the top corporate fundraising spot, New Zealand owned insurance company Fidelity Life has taken top honours on the Shave leader board with a total sum of $18,519.
“Shaven heads, radical haircuts chosen by the highest bidder, cake sales, Trade Me auctions, arm twisting and good-hearted competition at our annual conference. You name it, we’ve done it for this great cause,” says Fidelity Life Chief Executive Milton Jennings.
“This is a cause which is very dear to the hearts of our team – and this year’s fundraising efforts reflect that.”
The company has a long history of supporting Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) through their shave efforts and other fundraising initiatives.
In 2013, Milton Jennings was recognised by LBC for his personal long time support to the organisation and presented an award by the Governor-General. He has personally fundraised over $100,000 for the organisation.
“Fidelity Life is a long-term supporter of Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand and many of our team have participated in their fundraising events. We see on a daily basis the devastating impact these cancers can have on New Zealanders and their families – we’re proud to be able to assist the tremendous work LBC does supporting patients with support services, research, information, awareness and advocacy,” says Milton.
The official Shave Week (March 23-29) saw hundreds of Kiwis give up their hair for the cause with the latest campaign tally standing at around $880,000.
“We are incredibly grateful to Fidelity Life for supporting Shave for a Cure each year and for supporting LBC over so many years in such a substantial way,” says LBC’s Chief Executive Officer, Pru Etcheverry.
“On behalf of patients and families we are very appreciative,” she says.
Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers and related blood conditions.
The organisation does not receive government funding – the dollars raised from Shave help fund core services including patient support, support and funding for research, awareness and advocacy.
