Queenstown Airport Monthly Passenger Update
Queenstown Airport Monthly Passenger Update
It’s a little early for winter but it’s nice to see white gold again.
It’s currently snowing quite hard at the airport (not settling on the ground) but all flights are pretty much on schedule and there’s a jet service coming in from Christchurch instead of the ATRs.
Anyway, while we’re looking forward to winter, here’s a quick look back at Queenstown Airport's performance last month.
Please find attached a 2-page summary of monthly passenger and landings report for March 2015. A quick comparison against the same period last year shows:
• A strong overall performance across all domestic and international routes for the month, with the total number of passengers moving through the airport up 15.4% compared to March 2014. Events such as the Motatapu adventure race and NZ Golf Open in Queenstown and the Cricket World Cup played a key role in boosting travel.
• International passenger numbers were up 40%, with increased flight capacity and strong passenger loadings of 81% compared to 78% in March last year. The Melbourne route performed particularly well with 18 additional flights in and out of Queenstown and a 47% increase in passengers for the same period in 2014.
• Domestic passenger volumes also performed well, with a 9% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by aircraft up-gauging and consistently strong loadings - 87% compared with 86% in March last year.
