driven by the later timing of Chinese New Year (February
this year compared to January last year). Auckland Airport
had four daily direct services to China during February, a
79% increase in seat capacity, with double daily services
from Guangzhou on China Southern and daily services from
Shanghai on Air New Zealand and China Eastern. Auckland
Airport also experienced strong Chinese New Year traffic
from Hong Kong (+63.2%) and Taiwan
(33.9%). |
38.2% | Queenstown Airport’s international passenger numbers continued their strong performance up 38.2% on the same period last year. All trans-Tasman routes showed good growth and Queenstown also experienced an increase in Chinese visitors over the Chinese New Year period. | 12.6% | Cairns Airport’s International passenger numbers were 12.6% higher than February 2014. Cairns Airport had six charter services from China Southern during the Chinese New Year period, five from Guangzhou and one from Shenzhen. These charters were in addition to the daily services from Shanghai on China Eastern Airlines’ extended seasonal service. |
