solarcity shouts free coffee for Nelson to celebrate launch of solarZero
solarcity, New
Zealand’s leading solar power company, today celebrated
the launch of solarZero in Nelson with a citywide coffee
shout. solarcity officially opened registrations for
solarZero, a first-of-its-kind $0-down solar power
programme, at the Buzz Stop coffee cart this morning, giving
locals the chance to learn more about the benefits of going
solar over a free coffee.
“Nelson was the birthplace
of the company and the nation’s first true solar city. To
celebrate this we are giving everyone in Nelson the chance
to install solar panels with no upfront cost paying for the
power they generate rather than the panels and giving them
their first month of solar power free,” says Andrew Booth,
founder and CEO of solarcity.
Ewan Johnson, owner of
The Buzz Stop coffee cart was one of the first in Nelson to
pre-register for solarZero. “The price of electricity in
Nelson keeps going up and up and lots of people who stop to
buy coffee regularly chat to us about their rising power
prices. Nelson is blessed with loads of sunshine and now
with solarZero we can make the most of it and say goodbye to
our increasing power bills,” says Mr
Johnson.
“solarZero is designed to make it more
affordable for people to generate their own sustainable
energy. It lets people pay for power not panels at a rate
that will remain fixed for 20-years. The savings can add up
to thousands of dollars,” says Booth.
To help further educate locals in Nelson about solar power and solarcity’s new plan solarZero, Andrew Booth and a team from solarcity will also be at Marchfest today from 12pm – 7pm (located at Founders Park).
Eelco Boswijk cofounder of Marchfest, the nation’s leading beer and music festival is excited about the launch of solarZero in Nelson and thanks solarcity for their investment in the Nelson community. “It’s fantastic that solarcity has chosen to launch solarZero at Marchfest, an event which celebrates the amazing range of local beers that our region’s sunshine creates. Offering people from Nelson the best deal on solar helps everyone save money on power and do their bit for the environment, which lies at the heart of our region’s economic sucess,” says Boswijk.
Over the last 35 years, solarcity has put more panels on homes and businesses than anyone else in New Zealand. Booth says it is often the upfront cost of installing solar that puts others off making the solar switch. “Research shows that 85% of people want solar, but the upfront cost is the most common barrier. solarZero helps people enjoy the financial benefits of solar from day one. Communities across Nelson have backed us from the very beginning and we want to keep giving back to the city to make sure it keeps its leadership position as the solar capital of New Zealand,” says Booth.
