Switched on Gardener sold to global operator

Switched on Gardener and Hydroponic Wholesaler businesses sold to global operator

Nationwide retail gardening chain ‘Switched on Gardener’, together with its associated company ‘Hydroponic Wholesalers’, has been sold to Melbourne based Dome Garden Supplies PTY Limited by way of tender through Bayleys Tauranga broker Brendon Bradley.

Mr Bradley said the tender campaign attracted strong interest from numerous parties throughout New Zealand and Australia for a vertical operation which included 14 retail stores, an online store, plus a wholesale distribution division. The sale price is confidential to both parties.

Dome Garden Supplies is a leading international supplier of hydroponic and traditional horticultural products to the Australian, Asia-Pacific and North American markets.

Mr Bradley said Dome saw the acquisition as being complimentary to its international expansion, and planned to introduce a number of the company’s exclusive brands and products to the New Zealand market.

Dome also saw changes to the New Zealand market environment which would give customers a more varied depth of quality and internationally-attributed products.

He also added that it was the Dome’s intention to rebrand and remarket the ‘Switched on Gardener’ and ‘Hydroponic Wholesalers’ businesses as part of the restructuring over the first three months of ownership to fit within Dome’s ever evolving business strategy and successful model.
