Comment on Vodafone parental leave

Press Release – comment on Vodafone parental leave

The Parenting Place applauds the decision by Vodafone to supplement paid parental leave for their employees. “Topping up the Government leave provision to full pay, and allowing parents returning to work short weeks, again at full pay, will be a huge help”, said John Cowan. “The evidence is very clear: babies and parents both benefit from lots and lots of time together. Most parents think very hard about when they should return to work and how many hours they should work when they do. Money is, of course, a big factor in making those decisions. Vodafone is making it easier for parents to prioritise the welfare of their child and their own welfare as well.”

“I am not surprised that Vodafone would do something likes this”, says Cowan. “For years they have been actively supporting what The Parenting Place does for New Zealand families; that they would also look after the families of their own employees completely fits with our experience of them as an organisation.”
