All walkers on Ultimate Hikes Guided Walks Milford Track are safe.
That’s the message from Ultimate Hikes general manager Noel Saxon following incorrect reports that a man who died on the track yesterday was part of a guided group.
“We are keen to reassure families from around the world who may have relatives walking with the company that their loved ones are safe.”
The man who died was a 65-year-old from Auckland, New Zealand who was walking the track as part of an independent group staying at Department of Conservation huts.
Ultimate Hikes guides were able to assist by providing direct communication to the police when they found the man who was being helped by his companions.
“Our sympathies are with the family and particularly the man’s wife who was also walking the track.”
