Holiday parks upbeat about summer
It has been a boomer summer for camping and the mood of the holiday park sector is buoyant.
The latest Holiday Parks Business Confidence Monitor for January/February 2015, shows confidence remains at its high point of +83, equalling the December 2014/January 2015 high.
This confidence level indicates that 83% of respondents are currently more optimistic than pessimistic.
The Holiday Parks Business Confidence Monitor, developed and managed by Angus & Associates*, surveys the Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand’s (HAPNZ) 300 members.
“Confidence for the next 12 months and demand this month compared to the same month last year are also relatively strong, indicating that confidence is likely to stay high towards the end of summer,” HAPNZ Chief Executive Fergus Brown says.
Demand for January/February 2015 compared to the same month last year increased 10 points from December 2014/January 2015, with 65% of members surveyed saying demand had increased. 11% believed it had decreased and 20% saw no change.
“The increased demand continues to be attributed to the appeal of members’ regions, weather conditions and the appeal of holiday parks in general,” Mr Brown says.
For the year ended December 2014, Holiday Park guest nights totalled 6.603 million, the highest since the peak of 7.702 million in the YE March 2008.
“We are on target to beat this figure and set a new record high in the year ended March 2015. The key reasons for growth are the range of accommodation now available at holiday parks and the appeal of holiday parks to an increasingly wide range of international visitor markets,” he says.
