Fullers launches free 3G/4G Service on Auckland Ferries
Auckland, 02 March 2015 – Leading Auckland ferry
operator Fullers Group, today announces the launch of 3G/4G
services on most of its vessels servicing the Waitemata
Harbour and Hauraki Gulf.
Fullers CEO Doug Hudson says that he hopes that passengers will enjoy the new, free “Wi-Fi on the water” service and that it will enhance the on-water experience for commuters and tourists alike, who will now be able to connect to the internet, browse social media and keep up to date with the latest news, while on the water.
“Fullers care about delivering a great service, and having Wi-Fi available on board will give the more than 5,000,000 passengers that travel with us every year more ways to make efficient use of their travel time.
“We have been trialling various different solutions over the past 12 months to find the most reliable. Providing wireless internet connections in a marine environment can be challenging, and we have taken the time to find the most consistent solution available.”
After an extensive trial, Vodafone’s 3G/4G service was selected as the service provider. The Vodafone network provides 3G service to 97.5% of New Zealand’s population and its 4G network is the country’s largest.
Hudson says that 3G/4G service powered by Vodafone will firstly be available on eight of Fullers largest vessels that service Auckland’s harbour and Hauraki Gulf with a roll out to more of fleet later this year.
