Building performance in spotlight at 2015 Green Property Summit

The real-world performance of ‘green’ development will be under the microscope at next month’s Green Property Summit (March 26, Auckland).

The biannual Summit, now in its fifth year, is a collaboration between Property Council NZ and the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC).

The 2015 summit line-up comprises international and local experts viewing performance from every angle – investment, energy, environment, design – including how green buildings are serving the people occupying them.
Jeffrey Holmes of Woods Bagot New York, will introduce the extraordinary SAHMRI Building, Adelaide’s architectural showpiece with a responsive façade.

Nick Ebbs of Igloo Regeneration UK, will unveil how private sector investment is helping bring forgotten parts of UK cities back to life - with a sustainable focus.

Daniel Davis of CASE New York will outline how smart data is helping large international clients get more out of their buildings – from site selection right through to how they’re being used.
Closer to home, Investment Property Databank’s Anthony de Francesco will give the latest figures on how green-rated assets are performing in the market, while Romilly Madew of the Green Building Council Australia will look at the global picture, post-GFC.

Property Council Chief Executive Connal Townsend said investors were demanding sustainability in development more than ever.

“Green building best practice is now well and truly embraced in the market and has a solidified sway. Green values and requirements are in the blueprint of how our cities are being planned and organised and to ensure a thriving market, we must understand what it means to build ‘green’ in practical terms on the ground. There has never been a better time to have a Green Building Summit as districts issue their planning rulebooks.”

NZGBC Chief Executive Alex Cutler said there was a growing focus on building performance in New Zealand, due in part to the advent of NABERSNZ energy ratings. “We have some mature green building stock and it’s a good time to examine how our buildings are working for owners, tenants and the market in general.

“Technology is growing rapidly and giving us ever smarter ways to measure and manage buildings to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. We’re thrilled with the line-up of speakers at the 2015 Summit – I’m sure we’ll hear many challenging and stimulating insights.”

Also featuring at the Summit is John Dalzell of Waterfront Auckland and Mark McGuinness of Willis Bond discussing the area’s development. Mark Kessner of eCubed and Lincoln Fraser of Newcrest will contribute to a panel discussion on the real-world benefits of green building.
