MARKET TRENDS
The year that was 2014
In Australia Nielsen Book recorded single-digit growth in sales across both volume (+2.3%) and value (+2.0%) compared to 2013. The Children's category is the source of the growth, up +8.1% in volume and +11.7% in value. Non Fiction stayed relatively flat, and Fiction recorded a decline on last year.

In New Zealand
volume sales were down only 0.6% and value sales were up
0.1%. Christmas sales (occurring in weeks 37 to 52, or the
last four periods of the year) accounted for 43% of the
year’s total value sales, with consumers spending $49.6
million on just over two million books. Christmas period
sales were up 8.5% in volume and 10.5% in value on those of
2013.

THEMA CLASSIFICATIONS SCHEMES
Thema Classification, the new international classification scheme, is now included in our bibliographic records.
The introduction of new international standards to all our book records ensures that you receive the most up-to-date records with the most comprehensive and appropriate classification in the services you receive from Nielsen Book. The Thema Classification is now included in our bibliographic records and is being output in our Nielsen BookData Online and Nielsen BookData Record Supply MARC services.
