Colliers International opens new rural agency

Sights set on growth in rural market

February 23, 2015

Colliers International has opened its second rural and agribusiness agency as it builds towards a goal of eight rural divisions around the country.

Mark Synnott, Colliers International CEO, says the latest branch to open in Hawke’s Bay signals their ongoing commitment to a sector that has significant growth opportunities for the company.

“Colliers International is now part of a global rural buying and selling network.

“We recognise the increasingly corporate and international nature of agribusiness, and the need to offer clients expert local service backed by our global reach and expertise.”

Synnott says the drive for farm management to maximise potential to remain competitive worldwide, has driven the need for farms to amalgamate for economies of scale and utilisation of new technologies.

“This has led to further corporatisation of the farming sector in New Zealand, which is a trend that’s led to a greater level of detail being required when evaluating a rural business opportunity.”

Colliers’ new Hawke’s Bay rural division, part of Tremain Real Estate, will be headed up by Hadley Brown who previously specialised in the rural real estate market for Bayleys for six years, and was a regular top achiever in that field.

Brown says the sector is in good shape and his role will also encompass the overall horticulture and viticulture areas.

“There are some very good opportunities out there, and this will be a way for clients to get a higher, different level of service.”

Brown’s role will cover both the Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne regions.

Colliers opened its first rural and agribusiness agency in Canterbury last September with offices in Christchurch and Ashburton.
