Carter Holt Harvey Pulp and Paper today announced that $30 million is being invested to expand and upgrade the Penrose
Paper Bag manufacturing facility.
This announcement follows quickly on the back of the recent advice that the pulp, paper and packaging businesses of
Carter Holt Harvey Limited had been acquired by Oji Holdings Corporation (‘Oji’) and Innovation Network Corporation of
Japan (‘INCJ’) to be operated as Carter Holt Harvey Pulp and Paper Limited (‘CHHPP’), and confirms the commitment of the
new owners to grow the business.
The expansion project will improve both the capacity and the capability of the plant, extending its ability to meet
customers’ expectations and needs.
The project will extend the existing hygiene hall, upgrade all aspects of critical hygiene, install state of the art
bag-making equipment and build additional on-site warehousing and canopies.
Chief Executive, Dr Jon Ryder said “when we have finished the project in July 2016 we will have the leading dairy bag
manufacturing facility in the Southern Hemisphere meeting current international food safety standards.”
Dr Ryder added, “this is good for our customers and indeed the economy as we ensure New Zealand producers meet exacting
standards and help them grow their businesses in the competitive global marketplace. In particular we can continue to
support the growing NZ dairy industry whilst expanding CHHPP’s own export volumes.
One key area of production for us is in our three hygiene production lines that meet total annual dairy bag capacity in
excess of 100 million bags.”
“With the upgrade and expansion CHHPP will continue to set the standard in global dairy bag supply,” added Dr Ryder.
Multi-ply paper bags are used across a range of domestic and international brands and industries such as dairy,
agriculture, building and minerals.
