Alt Group Picks up Two Coveted iF Design Awards
Auckland-based design company, Alt Group, has swung into the 2015 awards season picking up two iF Design Awards, presented by the iF International Design Forum in Hamburg, Germany.
For more than 60 years the iF Design Award has been recognised as one of the most influential awards in the global design industry, with this year’s judging panel assessing more than 5,000 entries from 53 countries.
Alt Group won their awards for the design of Cardboard Cathedral, a book documenting the construction of award winning Japanese architect, Shigeru Ban’s design for a cathedral constructed of his signature cardboard tubes, and for their Kitchen Tools website designed for Fisher and Paykel.
Cardboard Cathedral won an iF Design Award in the Communication category for magazines, press and publishing. The book records the construction of the landmark Christchurch Cathedral in three sections: the first consisting of a written essay on the concept of the building; the second a photographic essay documenting the building’s unique construction, printed on kraft paper with overprinted layers of white and black, with colour plates revealing the cathedral’s final form.
The Kitchen Tools website won in the communication - website category. It presents case studies which show Fisher & Paykel appliances in projects designed by leading local and international architects. The website was developed to provide design solutions and support for for architects, designers and specifiers globally. Design flexibility and seamless integration are central to Fisher and Paykel’s product design philosophy and the various case studies demonstrate different cabinetry and architectural solutions, which mirror Fisher and Paykel’s own design philosophy.

Alt Group’s winning Cardboard Cathedral and Kitchen Tools website will be featured in a special show in the iF design exhibition Hamburg, part of as permanent exhibition which is a go-to place for those with a special interest in architecture and design.
