Changes in Coastal Shipping
The New Zealand Shipping Federation announced today the appointment of Annabel Young as the new Executive Director.
This appointment comes at an exciting time for coastal shipping as both Pacifica Shipping and Strait Shipping have recently announced the acquisition of increased shipping capacity.
The New Zealand Shipping Federation president, Steve Chapman, says that the appointment of Ms Young is a signal that the Shipping Federation wants a stronger voice in decision-making.
“Coastal shipping is a vital part of New Zealand’s transport infrastructure, alongside road and rail, but shipping is often overlooked.
There are good reasons to factor coastal shipping into any discussions about transport and we want to be part of that discussion. Coastal shipping is the unsung hero of New Zealand’s transport system,” said Mr Chapman.
Ms Young was a National Party List Member
of Parliament from 1997-2002. Since then she has been the
Chief Executive at Federated Farmers and at the Pharmacy
Guild.
She worked in the office of Judith Collins prior
to the 2014 election. She is the author of The Good
Lobbyist’s Guide.
Annabel Young replaces Jim Doyle who was the Executive Director for 3 years. “We appreciate the good work done by Jim Doyle especially in respect of training and maritime qualifications in the shipping sector” said Mr Chapman.
Ms Young took up her role in the new year.
