New leadership for the Community Sector
The Trustees of Hui E! Community Aotearoa have announced the appointment of their General Manager – Kaiwhakahaere Matua.
He is Peter Glensor – a senior leader in the NGO sector over many years.
Simon Cayley – Chair of the Board of Trustees for Hui E! Community Aotearoa, said that the Trustees are delighted with this appointment. “Peter bring a wealth of experience and energy to his new role. The creation of this new entity opens up new opportunities to promote and support the whole community sector. Hui E! Community Aotearoa is a new body, built after months of work by two founding bodies – ANGOA (Association of NGOs of Aotearoa) and Social Development Partners. Its goal is to promote, support and connect the community sector – around 100,000 not-for-profit groups in every sphere of life, with many thousands of volunteers and paid staff, and contributing nearly 5% of NZ’s GDP. The three main functions of Hui E! are:
Hui – a forum for the sector
Awhina – practical support for the sector
Korero – a public voice for the sector.
“This is an exciting and challenging role, and I’m delighted to have been appointed,” said Peter Glensor. “We want to be talking with large and small groups right around the country, discussing the key issues and providing practical support. The community sector is the social glue that holds communities together, and this new body is an exciting new way to provide support and enhance connections.”
