Suzuki Swift Celebrates Ten Years at the Top
The Suzuki Swift has continued its winning ways in New Zealand, notching up a decade at the top of its class.
With solid sales again last year, the Swift was once more the top selling new car in the light car segment - a position it has held since 2005.
“It is a remarkable achievement for any car to be number one for ten successive years,” said Gary Collins, general manager of automobile marketing for Suzuki New Zealand.
Right from introduction the Swift really struck a chord with New Zealand buyers and soon became the top choice for private new car buyers. It has also been one of the most popular new vehicles in the local market for several years and, at times, the overall market leader. While the current Swift continues similar styling to the original Swift it is a totally new model offering higher levels of safety, refinement, and fuel efficiency.
“Swift has been a consistently strong performer and is easily the most successful model ever marketed by Suzuki in New Zealand,” said Collins. “It has also been a strong seller in many international markets where consumers have relished the qualities and appeal of this small car.”
In 2014 a total of 2,667 new Swifts were retailed locally, beating the second placed Toyota Yaris in the supermini or light car sector.
To celebrate ten years at the top, Suzuki is releasing a revised Swift line-up offering even better equipment levels at improved price levels. Prices for the least expensive 1.4-litre version have been cut by 5 per cent as the brand marks a decade of ‘fun’.
The highly efficient entry-level 1.4-litre GL model now carries a recommended retail price of $18,990, plus on-road costs, for the manual version, and $19,990, plus on-road cost, for the automatic transmission model.
Both manual and automatic Swift GLX variants continue unchanged, while the current Ltd and RS versions are dropped from the range and replaced by the RSX automatic. This is the new flagship for the 1.4-litre range and has a higher specification level than the outgoing RS model.
Standard features of the RSX include a Garmin satellite navigation system, Bluetooth, climate control air conditioning, keyless start and entry, cruise control, 16-inch diameter alloy wheels, LED day time running lamps, fog lamps, four wheel disc brakes and 7 airbags. The RSX automatic is priced at $24,990 plus on-road costs.
“We are delighted to be able to offer an entry level Swift from $18,990 that is supported by our 5 year / 100,000km warranty package and 5 years roadside assistance” said Gary Collins. “Plus we now offer the extremely well specified RSX at a very competitive retail price. We are confident the changes to the Swift line-up will continue to keep Swift as the leading choice in the light segment.”
The popular and well equipped 1.6-litre Swift Sport 5-Door continues as a range-topping high performance version of the range. The Sport is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or CVT automatic, and is world renown as a leading hot hatch offering outstanding performance, handling, and styling.
