University graduates warned against delaying their search for work
28 December 2014 - University graduates wanting to launch their careers in 2015 are being warned not to spend too much
time at the beach over summer and to approach their search for work as if it was a full-time job.
The Recruitment and Consulting Services Association (RCSA) says it can be tempting at this time of year to make the
search for employment secondary to travel and leisure activities.
Paul Robinson, Chair of the association’s New Zealand Region Council, says some graduates may still be considering what
type of work they might want to do. But there will be others who will have a clear idea and should be developing a plan
now.
“They should be planning to commit full-time to the job hunting process. Not only will it increase their chances of
finding something sooner; it will also enable them to ensure their CV and other supporting material is of the highest
quality, and will allow them to be flexible with their time for interviews.
“Making a full-time commitment also allows graduates to take a due diligence-type approach to employment opportunities.
For example, it gives them the time and headspace to research a potential employer and satisfy themselves that it is
somewhere they would genuinely like to work.”
The RCSA is the leading industry and professional body for the recruitment and human resources services sector in
Australia and New Zealand. It represents over 3,300 company and individual members.
