Three new directors announced for board of Wellington Water

Three new directors will join the Board of Wellington Water Ltd, the council-owned organisation that manages the region’s drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services.

Cynthia Brophy, David Wright and David Benham will be joining the company that formed in September this year through a merger of Capacity Infrastructure Services, which was owned by the Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua and Wellington city councils, and Greater Wellington Regional Council’s water supply group.

The Chair of the Wellington Water Committee and Deputy Mayor of Lower Hutt, David Bassett, welcomed the new appointments. “Wellington Water Ltd is a fantastic service for the region, this has been a long-held vison and it is wonderful to see it becoming a reality, with appointments of this calibre to the Board,” Mr Bassett said.

Cynthia Brophy has strong connections in business and government through her work in the public and private sector. Her most recent role was General Manager of People and Corporate Relations for Transpower, which she continues to be involved in at Board and executive level.

David Wright is an experienced company director, management consultant and former chief executive. His career spans the state and corporate sectors, including electricity regulators, and transport authorities in New Zealand and overseas.

David Benham’s most recent position was chief executive of Greater Wellington Regional Council. David currently holds board positions on Centerport and Otago Regional Council committees. His financial and utility management skills will serve Wellington Water well, Mr Bassett said.

The Wellington Water Ltd Board is made up of independent directors, overseen by a committee with a representative from each of the five stakeholder councils.
