How lethal is your luggage?

How lethal is your luggage?

Could your child’s toy be a lethal weapon? Is your pie delicious but potentially explosive?

The travel experts at Cheapflights.com.au explore some travel incidents that prove that when it comes to travelling, you need to think before you pack.

According to Oonagh Shiel from www.cheapflights.com.au, travellers need to be aware of changing security and customs regulations.

“Whether you’re trying to save cash by bringing your own food, taking some weight off your checked-in luggage, or packing in those essentials for the kids; it seems that these days everyone’s trying to squeeze more through the security gate,” said Ms Shiel.

“It is best to check the rules at your destination before stuffing that must-have, one-of-a-kind souvenir into your hand luggage; not least to avoid everyone seeing the contents of your carry-on as you desperately repack at the gate.

“At Cheapflights, we thought it would be interesting to look at some of the items – and reasoning – which didn’t pass the ‘security gate test’. That piece of fruit may not be welcome in the USA, the hand-carved wooden statue not allowed in Australia and even that festive snow globe may fall foul of security restrictions in the UK.

“Our advice? Do your research, check with the authorities in the destination you’re travelling from and to – and, if in doubt, leave it out; particularly as security people and airlines have a lot of discretion when it comes to looking after passengers’ safety. After all, better safe than sorry.”
