Lawson’s Dry Hills Excels with Pinot Noir
Lawson’s Dry Hills are again hitting the headlines with another raft of gold medals and trophies, this time for Pinot
Noir as well as the aromatic wines that the company is already renowned for.
The list of recent accolades includes six gold medals for the Reserve Pinot Noir 2012 awarded at the following 2014
competitions: the Air New Zealand Wine Awards, Marlborough Wine Show, New Zealand International Wine Competition,
Spiegelau International Wine Competition and the Easter Wine Show plus 5 Stars and Best Buy in Cuisine Magazine. The
recently released 2013 Reserve Pinot Noir is echoing the success of the 2012 with a gold medal and trophy at the
Marlborough Wine Show and a gold medal Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
Sales and Marketing Manager, Derek Lilley is understandably delighted, saying “Lawson’s is renowned for outstanding
wines and receiving all these awards for Pinot Noir is particularly pleasing.” He continues, “Our customers know us for
aromatics, particularly the Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer, but these accolades just go to prove how exceptional our
wines are across the board.”
Chief Winemaker, Marcus Wright attributes the success to inroads made in both the winery and the vineyard. “We’ve always
enjoyed the challenge of making good Pinot Noir but our increased understanding with this tricky grape variety is
delivering some serious developments in quality and flavour profile. It’s great to have this reinforced by these
results”
