Chatham Rock Phosphate application - closing submissions

Chatham Rock Phosphate application - closing submissions

The Environmental Protection Authority is considering an application by Chatham Rock Phosphate Ltd for a marine consent to mine phosphate nodules from the Chatham Rise.

Closing submissions are being heard today and tomorrow in Wellington by the Decision-making Committee.

The Committee will then adjourn the hearing and consider whether it has sufficient information to formally close the hearing. Once the hearing is formally closed the Decision-making Committee has 20 working days to consider its decision.

A decision is currently scheduled to be made around 18 December. The decision will be released as soon as practicable after it has been made. The appeal period closes 15 working days after the decision has been provided to the applicant.

For further information on the application, see www.epa.govt.nz/EEZ/chatham_rock_phosphate/Pages/default.aspx
