Fast growing car company tops retail category

One of New Zealand’s fastest growing companies is already underway with further growth plans following its overall 2nd placing in the New Zealand wide Deloitte Fast 50 Awards announced last night.

2 Cheap Cars are in Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch but will soon be opening branches in Wellington and Dunedin to bring it’s total number of branches to nine before Christmas.

The car importing and retail company finished behind technology company Voyager Internet which won the overall fastest growing title last night.

2 Cheap Car General Manager, Garry Moore, says claiming the fastest growing retailer award and finishing second over all was an outstanding result.

“In a short period of time we have set up in the well established and highly competitive used car market simply by giving great value and service to customers. While some business can find exceptional growth through an invention or technology break-through, we have effectively gone back to basics by putting our customers first.

“It is fairly safe to assume that many people looked at the importing and retailing of used Japanese cars and thought there were no longer opportunities in that business. However we have proved the opposite to be true.”

“We believed that the margins charged by some other car retailers prevented car buyers from getting value from their purchase. Obviously we can only keep our margins down by selling lots of cars. This is a formula that is continuing to work for us … and for consumers,” says Mr Moore.

In 3 years, 2 Cheap Cars has become the biggest retailer of used cars in New Zealand and expect to be selling around 800 cars a month by the end of the year.

Mr Moore says the company will be looking to continue on with its fast growth following the Deloitte Fast 50 win.

“Our aim is to get branches within easy reach of most of New Zealand’s car buyers as quickly as we can. There are other major population centres where we are not currently present and so we are looking closely at how we can expand into these areas as soon as possible.”
