Jeep Wrangler is SEMA’s ‘Hottest 4x4 SUV’ for 5th Year

Jeep Wrangler is Sema’s ‘Hottest 4x4 SUV’ for the Fifth Consecutive Year

The Jeep Wrangler is the ‘Hottest 4x4-SUV’ for a fifth consecutive year at the world’s largest custom, performance and accessory show, SEMA

SEMA selects the Jeep® Wrangler as most customized vehicle in the 4x4 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) category at this year’s trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center

The legendary Jeep Wrangler is available in New Zealand from $46,990 plus on road costs.

For a fifth consecutive year, the Jeep® Wrangler has been recognized as the “Hottest 4x4-SUV” at the world’s largest custom, performance and accessory show, the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

The SEMA Award recognizes vehicle models that specialty equipment manufacturers believe are the best vehicles for accessorization in order to showcase the year’s coolest products and to enable owners to fully reflect their personality, style and driving needs in their cars.

The winning selection was determined with a survey of vehicles displayed by SEMA exhibitors on the convention floor. That simple metric helps identify an emerging trend as SEMA Show exhibitors choose to channel their investments into the cars they consider the top enthusiast prospects for the coming year, helping to drive the direction of an industry that generates $33 billion per year in the United States alone.

“By winning yet another SEMA Award for Hottest 4x4-SUV, the Jeep Wrangler reinforces its position as the off road vehicle best suited to reflect each consumer's individuality,” said SEMA President and CEO, Chris Kersting.

“It’s a tremendous honor that the Jeep Wrangler has once again been named the “Hottest 4x4-SUV” at the SEMA Show,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand. “Jeep Wrangler owners are the ultimate enthusiasts, and have always loved modifying their vehicles. Offering a unique, classic design and unmatched capability, Wrangler is the perfect platform for them to do so.”

The Jeep® Wrangler is the most capable and recognized vehicle in the world and is available in two body shapes, the classic two door Wrangler and the five door Wrangler Unlimited. Both share the Wrangler’s unique styling and legendary off road performance that has made Jeep benchmark for all-terrain ability.

Both models offer a choice of the award winning 3.6 litre 209 kW Pentastar V6 engine and the 147 kW 2.8 litre Turbo Diesel engine, with both matched to a six speed manual gearbox as well as a five speed automatic with the Pentastar V6 engine.

The Jeep Wrangler delivers unmatched off-road capability with legendary four-wheel drive and is produced with more than seven decades of 4x4 engineering experience. Wrangler continues to offer a body-on-frame design, front and rear five-link suspension system, live axles, electronic lockers, and is one of the few SUVs that offers a six-speed manual transmission – in addition to its five-speed automatic transmission.

The advanced off-road technology fitted to the Jeep Wrangler includes:

• Electronic sway bar disconnect that allows the front suspension to compress and expand further, making rock climbing a breeze by articulating the wheels to help you keep moving (standard on Rubicon).

• Tru-Lok® front and rear locking differentials that lock power and distribute it evenly between the wheels for the ultimate in traction (standard on Rubicon).

• Off-and on-road brake systems. A four-wheel disc anti-lock brake system (ABS) with a Jeep 4WD off-road calibration system provides more sustained wheel lockup on plowable surfaces like mud, sand, and gravel for improved stopping performance.

• The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system helps prevent the "peddle bobble" that often occurs when in 4LO mode. ETC's special off-road calibrations help the driver to "feather in" the throttle over uneven terrain, logs and rocks.

• Next generation Dana 44 heavy duty solid rear axles that offer durability, improved ground clearance and quieter operation. (Front Dana 30 standard on Sport, front Dana 44 standard on Rubicon).

• Heavy-duty suspension. Solid axles with locating arms, coil springs, track/stabiliser bars, front steering damper, and high-pressure gas- charged monotube shock absorbers are comfortably capable.

• Off-road protection in the form of 3 mm-thick stamped steel off-road skid plates for the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan.

In New Zealand the Wrangler is available in three trim and equipment versions, the Sport, Overland and Rubicon. Prices start at $46,990 for the Jeep Wrangler Sport and $53,990 for the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport, excluding on road costs.
