Crane drivers to open building

Parry Field Lawyers will open their new building next week with a ceremonial crane lifting, recognising the heroic rescue of their staff after the February 2011 earthquake.

8 Parry Field Lawyers staff were trapped in Level 17 of the Forsyth Barr tower after the earthquake on February 22, 2011. Jason Bourke and Jason Campbell of Smith Cranes winched them to safety using a ‘man-cage’ attached to a crane in a rescue operation that was televised live around the world.

To acknowledge their gratitude, Parry Field Lawyers have invited the rigger and crane operator to open their new building on Tuesday 4th November. Key staff will be lifted from the carpark onto the Level 1 balcony of their new offices with a crane and man-cage similar to the one used in February 2011.

“After nearly 4 years in temporary offices we’ve now come full circle. We thought it would be a fitting conclusion to have the crane operators who rescued our staff open our new building”, says Grant Adams, Chair of Partners at Parry Field Lawyers.

Tim Smith, Managing Director of Smith Cranes, is happy to supply the crane and mancage for the event. “It’s an honour to be involved, and great that my staff have been recognised this way”, he says. Smith Cranes are also acknowledged on a commemorative plaque which will be unveiled at the event.

Parry Field staff and a small group of key suppliers will be present. The building opening at 1 Rimu Street will be held on Tuesday 4th November from 5.30pm, with the formalities and man-cage lifting from 6.45pm.
