Datacom New Zealand Launches a New Devcloud Service for Government
30 October 2014 - Today Datacom is pleased to announce the availability of a new development cloud environment tailored
to the specific and rigorous requirements of New Zealand Government agencies.
Called DevCloud, this new Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform is targeted at application development
environments that support a range of Government organisations to build and test applications quickly and
cost-effectively.
Mark Muru, Director Datacom Systems Wellington says, “DevCloud is designed to rapidly assist customer development teams
to increase the level of automation, standardisation and control. This new capability reduces costs and routine or
repetitive tasks, supporting developers to increase innovation and accelerate delivery to their business.”
Ministry for Primary Industries has committed to be a pilot agency and look forward to the completion of their pilot in
early 2015.
Muru says, “The considerable upside of this environment for local public sector clients is that our existing Datacom
IaaS customers can now develop and test on the same technology as their production loads run on with reduced costs
comparable to those of large off-shore public cloud providers.”
DevCloud is available via the secure Inter-Agency Interconnection (IAI) network within the Datacom data centre, which
means agencies can easily connect from their existing DCSG (Datacom Cloud Services for Government) network without
requiring additional network connections.
It also provides a high level of security while eliminating any potential risks around data sovereignty.
DevCloud is hosted in-country and is supported 24/7 by a multi-skilled local Datacom team on the ground in Wellington.
Datacom is growing rapidly in Wellington and has doubled in size in 5 years; now contributing over 1250 staff as a key
part in the wider 3,776 workforce across New Zealand, Australia and SE Asia.

Datacom recently invested a further $4 million upgrading for earthquake resilience at its Abel Smith Street premises and
Data Centre and has invested over $100 million over the last 4 years in world class data centre facilities, including
the Auckland located Orbit and Hamilton’s Kapua data centre.
Both of these latter data centres have been globally recognised as the first in Australasia to be certified by The
Uptime Institute (UTI) - Management and Operations certification.
