The Queen On Twitter

The Queen has sent her first tweet from the British Monarch Twitter account in front of an invited audience at the Science Museum in London whilst opening the Information Age exhibition.

At least she appeared to as she removed her glove and tapped on an iPad. However speculation has been rife that she didn't actually do it. Apparently her finger wasn't in the place where you'd normally touch the send button and some Twitter users report the tweet was marked as sent from an iPhone.

It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R.

In response, some Twitter users dropped royal protocol and adopted slightly more familiar lines of communication.

In response to the suspicion around the provenance of the tweet, the palace felt the need to send another tweet assuring us all of The Queen's technical ability at the grand age of 88.

Whether she did it herself or whether it was deemed a security risk to have the royal finger stabbing at an iPad, it increased the @BritishMonarchy Twitter account by about 100,000 followers and got over 35,000 retweets. All in all some brilliant PR.
