Outsourcing production provides increased transparency
Te Māngai Pāho Chief Executive John Bishara says TVNZ’s decision to outsource Māori programme production from next year would further increase contestability and transparency in the allocation of public broadcasting funding, which is a key goal of Te Māngai Pāho.
“While the change will be disruptive and unsettling for the TVNZ staff in the impacted production team, ultimately we believe this change will result in greater transparency and aligns with TVNZ’s focus on being a ‘publisher’ rather than a producer of content,” he said.
Mr Bishara said he was pleased that TVNZ remained fully committed to its statutory obligations in respect of cultural diversity and a Māori perspective.
“We are also confident that TVNZ will respect its obligations as a ‘good employer’ and will assist existing production staff to become independent contractors where this is an option - Te Māngai Pāho will offer what support it can.”
