You know checking your breasts is as easy as checking the pressure of your tyres – but far more important. That’s the message Bridgestone wants to get out to all males - husbands, boyfriends, sons, friends - to understand that the women in their life can be affected and it’s part of their job to encourage regular checking for lumps.
So guys get talking. Mammograms can find breast changes early. Just a little squeeze or discomfort from a regular mammogram from age 40 could save a life and anyone can enrol for a free screening programme on 0800 270 200.
The annual Bridgestone Pink Cap Drive campaign kicked off in October and runs through the end of November. Pink caps are on sale for $2 each frombridgestonepinkcaps.co.nz/, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the New Zealand Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).
Show us sporting your pink caps.
Over the years we’ve seen just about every type of item with tyres out there – police cars, long-haul truck drivers, forklift drivers, lawnmowers, farmers’ tractors, dump trucks, steam rollers, graders, fire engines, NZ Air Force planes, pushchairs and kids’ scooters - all decked out in pink caps. Show us this year what you can add to that!

Bridgestone and its Pink Caps
Since 2008, Bridgestone has sold its iconic pink tyre valve caps through Bridgestone Tyre Centre, Bridgestone Select and Firestone stores to raise funds for the NZBCF supporting the women affected every day by breast cancer.
“This year we’re stepping up our fundraising efforts by introducing online sales and running an integrated social campaign that men can also get behind and go all out contending for the best pink cap shot,” says Tim Southey, Marketing Manager for Bridgestone New Zealand.
Waking Giants is the branding agency Bridgestone has engaged to run the campaign. Grant Difford, Creative Director/Owner for Waking Giants, says that four years ago he lost his mother to breast cancer so this is a cause close to his heart. “Social media is an important tool in showing how this illness affects so many. With Bridgestone’s efforts we’re providing a platform for sharing, to allow the healing process to start and make some incredible steps to fundraise for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.”
“The Pink Cap fundraising campaign is incredibly valuable to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation and we are delighted to see it come out with an emotional hook, involving the woman you love,” says Evangelia Henderson, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. “Breast cancer is a disease that affects whole families and communities. We love that Bridgestone can take such a serious issue and give it such a unique spin.”
“The Pink Cap Drive campaign continues to be successful year on year as many of us know someone affected by this disease,” says John Staples from Bridgestone, the Group General Manager New Zealand Business. “Our goal each year is to increase people’s awareness about early detection and treatment options, while raising money for an incredible cause and organisation. In the six years since we started the campaign, Kiwis have contributed almost half a million dollars to the cause – which is pretty amazing.”
