The Warehouse and Warehouse Stationery Scoop Top Prize

The Warehouse and Warehouse Stationery Scoop Top Retail Employer Prize

Iconic Kiwi retailers, The Warehouse and Warehouse Stationery - both part of The Warehouse Group - last week clinched titles of Top Retail Employer in their respective categories in an annual award programme to celebrate the country’s favourite retail employers.

The awards, which saw a record number of votes cast in New Zealand, are decided by public vote and seek to recognize the retail brands that New Zealanders most want to work for.

For the third year running, The Warehouse claimed the title of Retail Employer of the Year in the large retailer category with 1,000 or more full time equivalent (FTE) team members and for the second year in a row, Warehouse Stationery won Retail Employer of the Year in the medium category for businesses with between 101 and 1,000 FTE team members.

The Warehouse Group CEO, Mark Powell says: “Winning these awards recognizes the extensive work we have done as a business to engage team members in learning and development opportunities and to reward them for their expertise through higher remuneration.

“We now have over 4,100 team members receiving the ‘Career Retailer Wage’, which aims to reward, motivate and retain customer-focused teams and this, combined with our broader Group programme to develop future leaders is making TW Group an employer of choice for Kiwis.

“These awards are not just a reflection of how the public perceive us, but also how our team members feel about working in our retail businesses. Our high team member engagement shows that working in retail is an exciting, challenging and financially rewarding career path,” says Mr Powell.

The Retail Employer of the Year award was established in 2011 by Retailworld Resourcing in partnership with the industry as a means of celebrating the brands that the public deemed to have forged the most desirable working environments.

Retailworld CEO, Trish McLean says: “During a time when our industry is thriving and there have been many new international entrants to the market, creating a strong employment brand is more important than ever.

“Voters described The Warehouse as being truly people-centred, with many commending its Career Retailer Wage and commitment to providing continuous opportunities for further education and career development.

“Warehouse Stationery was described as focused on developing and nurturing all of its team members, maintaining a positive and friendly working environment and rewarding excellence,” says Ms McLean.
