Small Businesses Win Big in National Business Award
A small business providing easy and affordable HR support for SMEs is this year’s Supreme Winner in The David Awards: heroes in small business.
HR Toolkit, which offers a document library backed up with specialist support, also took out the Most Innovative
Business category and was a finalist in the Most Outstanding Established Business category.
Speaking on behalf of the judges, Glenn Baker commented, “HR Toolkit was a standout this year for a number of number of
reasons. The judges liked their business model. They liked the results they’ve been getting through very smart market
penetration - finding the key partners made all the difference – and they loved their ambitious growth plans. HR Toolkit
ticks all the boxes for a successful young company and they are well on their way to becoming a significant and unique
player in their market segment. They are an excellent example of a solid and inspiring five-year-old business.
Founder of The David Awards, Heather Douglas, says, “The intention of The David Awards is to recognise ordinary, small,
home or micro businesses, which often fly beneath the national radar but are doing extraordinary things. There were a
record number of entries this year, and the judges felt the quality overall was a big step up. Entrants loved the new
Solo Meo category recognising single-person businesses.”
Another entry which stood out for the judges was Adaptive Technology Solutions, which won not only the Most Outstanding
Triumph over Adversity category, but also the Solo Meo Award and the Most Community-Minded Business category. Business
owner Genevieve McLachlan, who has cerebral palsy and unrelated sight impairment, taken her personal experience with
disability and used it to create a unique business offering assessment and assistance to others who are dealing with the
same challenges. “Her commitment to learning the skills she needed to build a business and developing links with the
local business community has resulted in a successful business that continues to grow”, says Judge Pam Martin.
