Business personality Theresa Gattung to speak at PERRIAM launch
Leading New Zealand business personality Theresa Gattung will be guest speaker at the exclusive launch of Central Otago fashion brand PERRIAM next weekend.
Theresa – author, former CEO of Telecom and named in the 2006 Forbes list of the World’s 50 Most Powerful Women – will speak about being a woman in business and the importance of branding on Saturday, October 18, at Bendigo Station for the launch of Wanaka fashion designer Christina Perriam’s new label.
Christina will unveil PERRIAM and the first PERRIAM Woman Collection (Summer 2014/2015) at a VIP event outside the Bendigo Station Homestead. Also launching on that day is the new website perriam.co.nz and the flagship PERRIAM store at Tarras Village.
Theresa is a friend of the Perriam family and was chair of Wool Partners International when Christina’s father John Perriam – owner of the late Shrek the Sheep – was a member of the board.
With an impressive career featuring vast amounts of branding experience – including her latest venture with Nadia Lim and Cecilia Robinson, My Food Bag – Theresa says she’s excited about Christina’s new venture: “I love her brand. She is taking a resource that is so quintessentially New Zealand and doing something sustainable, honouring where it comes from and creating something fresh.
“Fashion is a very tough business. A good way of dealing with that is creating an experience around the label, and that is what Christina is doing with the flagship store in Tarras and this event.
“Christina’s lived overseas; she knows what she’s up against. She’s chosen to make New Zealand her home – as have I – and she’s competing with the best in the world. It’s tough to do it outside of Auckland where there’s critical mass. It’s even better that she’s chosen to base herself in Central Otago, a place of huge opportunity.”
Theresa adds: “John Perriam is the father of New Zealand merino and he, his late wife Heather and their daughter Christina have transformed the Tarras area. It’s a wee jewel on the way to Mt Cook or to Queenstown. Tarras is one of my favourite shopping communities in the country.”
Christina says she’s thrilled at having Theresa speak at the PERRIAM launch event: “Theresa is an iconic businesswoman and a great role model for women in business. I’m excited that she gets to be part of this very important milestone in my career, while celebrating the spirit and beauty of the high country and luxury fashion that comes from merino wool.”
