Marlborough's finest comes to Auckland city with the launch of new wine bar
Cloudy Bay are giving wine enthusiasts the chance to experience a slice of Marlborough’s finest in Auckland city with the launch of Cloudy Bay Wine Bar @ The Foodstore from 1st October 2014. The new outdoor space overlooking the waterfront, invites guests to indulge in their inner sommelier by tasting various Cloudy Bay wines, including the highly anticipated Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2014, launching 1st October worldwide.
Cloudy Bay Wine Bar @ The Foodstore will be a chic outdoor space inspired by the fresh, breath-taking beauty of its Marlborough origins. Overlooking the Auckland Viaduct, the Cloudy Bay Wine Bar will launch the new vintage, setting wine aficionados up for the sauvignon blanc season.
The Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2014 is a refined expression of Marlborough sauvignon blanc. It is intensely concentrated and framed with a fresh natural acidity that gives poise and shape to the palate. The nose is bright with aromas of kaffir lime and grapefruit and a generous palate reveals ripe citrus, stone fruit and lemongrass flavours balanced by crunchy acidity.
“This year produced an excellent sauvignon blanc for Cloudy Bay,” says Cloudy Bay senior winemaker Tim Heath. “It could have taken a turn for the worse but we finished picking all of our fruit on the evening prior to intense rainfall that continued for 14 days. Thanks to experience and our commitment to quality, we avoided the season’s perils enjoying our second earliest harvest in 30 years. The resulting wine is a sophisticated expression and, for me, Marlborough at its finest.”
To celebrate the new vintage, The Foodstore’s executive chef Mark Southon will be serving his tribute to Marlborough seafood with culinary creations such as crab salad with celeriac & apple verjus jelly, perfectly matched to Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2014.
“Anyone who has been to the Marlborough region knows it is an experience like no other and now there is a global thirst for our homegrown wine. The Cloudy Bay Wine Bar pays tribute to this and lets urban wine enthusiasts get a slice of Marlborough’s best, right here in Auckland city,” says Rai Banbury, Cloudy Bay senior brand manager.
Opening officially on October 1st, The Cloudy Bay Wine Bar @ The Foodstore will continue to highlight various vintages through the year with special tastings and events. Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2014 will also be available in leading wine retailers from 1st October.
