Wireless Nation appoints South Island General Manager

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 30 SEPTEMBER 2014
Cutting edge ISP Wireless Nation has appointed a new South Island General Manager, another stride in its commitment to deliver broadband to farmers, wherever and however they need it.
Jason Sharp joins the ISP from Farmside and will be heading a new Wireless Nation Christchurch office. He’s excited to get moving on growing Wireless Nation’s South Island presence.
“There’s a big gap out there. If you look at the urban environment you’ve got fibre, you’ve got unlimited data usage, however conversely in rural there’s limited fibre, if any, and no unlimited data,” Jason Sharp says.
The company already has 14 trained installers in the South Island. Clients who aren’t in the Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI) coverage area are being set up with Satellite Broadband through the Optus satellite network, which is enhanced by Gilat Satellite Networks’ technology.
“Wireless Nation’s very innovative in investing in supporting that rural environment in terms of investing in the satellite proposition, investing in RBI as a partner to the Government and delivering fast broadband,” Sharp says.
“But also over and above that, stuff that sits outside of the square – coming up with pretty amazing solutions that others haven’t thought of and delivering them accordingly.
“And on the flipside of all of that, we have our corporate ISP offer and that’s going to be aimed at the Christchurch rebuild and delivering new and exciting broadband solutions to Christchurch.”
Wireless Nation is also working with PGG Wrightson to make it even easier for farmers and rural businesses to get broadband anywhere they need it through the nationwide rural supplier’s rewards programme.
"We are delighted to have Jason on board with us,” says Wireless Nation’s Technical Director Tom Linn.
“Jason brings a wealth of industrial knowledge and experience to fuel Wireless Nation’s growth engine. Jason is dynamic and very likeable person and has an extensive network in both the rural and urban telco landscape. Wireless Nation is looking forward to being able to support customers and network with prospective partners and clients in the South Island."
About Jason Sharp
Jason Sharp grew up in Southland, and now proudly calls Christchurch home. He spent 15 years in the UK after heading overseas on a rugby contract, and ultimately getting into telecommunications. He was a sales manager for Vodafone for five years, and another five years running his own Wireless Nation type start-up ISP.
“Hence the synergy with Wireless Nation, having been there, built it, done it myself, to come in at the growth stage here to really take it to the next level is bloody exciting,” he says.
Married with two children, Sharp says his family decided to come home when his children reached school age. Since returning he’s spent time as a sales manager for Telecom Business, before spending the past year with Farmside.
