Red Bus responds to rural needs
Red Bus is starting a weekday commuter bus service from Oxford to Christchurch in response to local community requests.
After contact from Oxford locals, Red Bus surveyed the Oxford community who strongly supported a daily return commuter
run. Red Bus has responded by committing to a 3 month trial service beginning on Monday, 13 October.
This service will depart from Oxford (outside Oxford Service Centre) at 7.00am, with stops at Cust (outside Service
Centre), Swannanoa (Swannanoa Hall) Mandeville (Tram /Bradleys Road) and Northlands Mall. The return service will leave
from outside the Central Station on Tuam St at 5.30pm.
As a special introductory offer, fares will be discounted for the first 4 weeks (13 October – 7 November) as below:
$8.00 Adult, $5.50 child each way
$6.50 Adult, $4.50 Child (from Cust)
$5.00 Adult, $3.50 Child (from Swannanoa/Mandeville)
The normal fare from Oxford will be $11.00 Adult, and $7.50 Child each way.
The NZ Transport Agency's Southern Regional Director Jim Harland welcomes the move by Red Bus to trial a new commuter
bus service from Oxford to Christchurch.
"We need to consider all possible options to reduce traffic volumes on the Northern Motorway during peak travel times
and introducing new bus services is one way to help ease congestion. It gets people out of their cars and travelling in
a more sustainable way.
"I encourage the community to give it a go and support the new service and applaud Red Bus for its initiative in looking
for new ways to get commuters to their destination in a way that improves traffic flows, reduces delays and driver
frustration."
The service will be reviewed at the end of the year.
