Media Release – 24 September 2014
“Ngāti Kahungunu concerned about whānau wellbeing”
Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Chairman Ngahiwi Tomoana is concerned about the impact of todays raid on Hawkes Bay Seafoods and the impact this may have on the 150 workers and their whanau who are employed by this organisation. They have already lost a days work as a result of todays actions.
Hawkes Bay Seafoods have been a valuable contributor to our economy and to the welfare of our people.
We support sustainable fishing practices and we hope this matter is sorted out quickly so our people can go into the new fishing season starting 1st October with confidence that they will have job security up to Christmas and beyond.
