Global media and innovation experts join Aspiring Conversations line up

Global telecom, media and technology specialist, Dr. Jacques Bughin from the Brussels office of McKinsey & Company and New Zealand innovation leader, Dr. Mary Quin join James Manyika to debate the impacts of information
technology in ‘How to run the world’. They replace Parag Khanna who has had to withdraw from the session that takes
place on Saturday 11 October at the Lake Wanaka Centre.
Like James Manyika, Dr. Bughin is a member of the McKinsey Global Institute Council and is also a fellow of the Aspen
Institute. A frequent speaker at worldwide conferences, he also co-leads the Digital Economy Initiative, a recently
launched McKinsey knowledge program. Recent work has included assisting public broadcasters worldwide to redesign their
strategic mission and operations. He is a fellow of ECORE, a think tank on economic policy in Belgium.
Dr. Mary Quin is a leading executive and innovation expert. She is the inaugural Chief Executive of Callaghan
Innovation, the New Zealand-based advanced technology institute named after one of the country’s most eminent
contemporary scientists, the late Sir Paul Callaghan.
Before returning to New Zealand, Dr. Quin spent 20 years working overseas in senior executive roles in NASDAQ-listed
companies such as Eastman Kodak and Xerox. A science graduate of the University of Canterbury and Northwestern
University in Illinois, Dr. Quin also received an MBA with High Distinction from Harvard Business School, graduating as
a Baker Scholar.
Dr Quin may be remembered as a member of a group of Western tourists that were taken hostage in 1998 by Yemeni
militants. The operation ended with the deaths of four of the captives, and Dr Quin was subsequently a key witness in
the prosecution of London based imam Abu Hamza as-Masri in New York.
